Knocked Thermometer, 'let off' white stuff?

Not sure if it's a paper backing, didn't look like it when I got it. Basically the sucker part had some white stuff on it and leaked it all into my tank. I have the filter on but it's like paper floating around? Will this harm my Axi?

Their are to many kinds of Wilkinsons thermometers. I don't have enough info to give advice.
