Last year's US Tylototriton imports

I was just curious as to how they are all faring in general? In my basement the kweichowensis and tailengensis are becoming more active and spending much of the time in the water (fingers crossed). The shanjing are eating more but still reclusive. The overall health of all of them seems to be great with the sole exception of one cloudy eyed kweichow.

Sounds good, Foster.

I'm not in the U.S., but my female T. taliangensis from last year is also starting to spend time in the water.

Since I have no male, I'm hoping that maybe this species can have eggs even a year or two after insemination. I seem to recall something about this being possible with...was it by any chance E./T. andersoni?

There's some good news on the horizon in that I will soon be inheriting some T. taliangensis males (as well as more females) from another keeper

, along with various other Tylototriton species. His hands are full with domestic species, it seems.

I currently have a grey-variety T. kweichowensis pair and a T. verrucosus pair that I also hope will breed for me. Also a unsexed dark-variety T. verrucosus that may lend a helping cloaca

I fared poorly with the T. kweichowensis larvae and morphs I received last year from another friend who regularly breeds this species. Don't ask for details as the memory is...just too painful!

Tim,

Do you have photos of those grey-variety T. kweichowensis? I'm curious what they look like.

Yeah, I thought so. Too bad, it would have been interesting seeing a grey kweichowensis.

Hi, Mark.

Sorry for the confusion.

I meant to say I have T. kweichowensis pair and a grey-variety T. verrucosus pair, not a grey-variety T. kweichowensis pair

i still have all 7 taliangensis, i lost one of the kwie's but still have all 7 shanjiings -the shanjiings are doing best as far as looking gravid and all-the other two species arent showing the girth of breeding readiness -but see the post about the taliangensis for a little something new about those...

Tim,
I hope that all turns out well for your expected tailengensis males.

Paris,
As I have already mentioned my tailengensis are more active and swimming quite a bit however I'll have to honestly say that at this point they all seem indifferent to each other (same with the kweichow's). Definitely none of the tail waving behavior that you have observed. In the best case scenerio (we all manage to breed them) I would be interested in swapping offspring. Seeing as how we all have WC adults we have great potential for maintaining genetic diversity.

Beautiful Kweichowensis Tim, could you explain your care regime for them as i'm hoping to get some in the near future, cheers

Thanks Andy. I've only had this pair for less than a year so there's only so much to tell. They've both been healthy with good appetites for all the time I've had them. Until recently, I'd been keeping them in a completely terrestrial setup, where they spent most of the time under shelters. They especially like the dry inner rim of that plastic ornament you can see in the picture. I usually take them out of the tank (90 cm x 45 cm x 45 cm) for feeding, mainly waxworms, every three days or so. The room temperature has been set so that it doesn't fall below 18 or rise above 22. I switched to a partial aquatic setup a couple of weeks ago, and the female (or is this the male? -- I haven't been paying attention!

) took right away to water. The other one rarely goes in the water. I started out setting the water level pretty low and have since raised it, while decreasing the land area. I've prepared java moss extending up out of the water as an egg deposition site. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
