Laying an egg

This is the first time I have ever seen a newt in the middle of laying an egg. She was just floating at the top, taking a rest I suppose.

Nice shot, Jennewt!!! That's the first time I've seen that. If you took that picture at a large resolution, I've love to see an up-close version showing the egg emerging!

It's still only March, but I'd like to put in an early nomination for that pic for "shot-of-the-year"! What happened after it was taken? Did she lay it on a plant or withdraw it?
 
Mike - there's a 2 out of 3 chance that it's one of your old newts. I'm not sure I can tell them apart any more.

Tim - I have no idea what happened afterward. I didn't have time to stick around and see what she did with it!
 
Actually, I think I see what happened to the egg. Today there is a fresh egg sitting on the java moss just below where this newt was floating. It is not wrapped up as they usually are. I think she just dropped it there.
 
How irreverent! Well, she probably had her reasons
