maybe bear bottom is a better idea, i have a bear bottom and my axie doesn't seem to mind, it will also stop irritation from the sand

I have 5 axies and they all dont care that it is bare bottom. They spend more time climbing on everything anywAys to care lmao. I found sand to hard
To keep up with axies poop a lot and when they arent nice solid poops on the sand its inpossible to just clean up poop

I have off today, so I will perform operation remove sand. Not sure where I'm going to put the sand, doubt my landlord will like if I dump it on my porch lol.

Should I put Lenny back in once everything's settled and tested clear? He's showing improvement, the first day I did his tea bath he was very easy to net, the last two times he's been a little butthead, so his spirits are up, as well as his toes looking better and less pale overall. I'm continuing baths until he can go back home.

Not such a good update, Lenny's toes got better but now they're still kinda red and I think the tippy tips of some of his toes are gone. I took the sand out and was able to clear it out enough to get Karl back in. There's some sand still at the bottom of the tank, but it's very fine and just the stuff that settled so I left it. Karl's been spazzing though, looked like he was chasing his tail for a while, but I think he's just excited about being in a 20 gallon tank instead of a quart of water.

I'll keep bathing Lenny, but at this point I'll just wait and see if the ammonia stays at 0 for a while then put him back in and hope it goes well.

Can we get an updatwed pic of lenny?

I am not quite sure what other guidance i can offer other then keep doig what you are doing, unless you start seeing fungus.

I mean theres this slight chance there is a bacterial or viral infection which would need vet care.. But i dont know yet if it is it isnt a terrible case.

Pics would be helpful. And keep doing what you are doing

There's really nothing new to see that the camera can pick up, besides the fact that he's getting bigger. It's not getting worse, and if he was infected with something bad that's what I would expect would happen. For treatment, I don't know of any vets nearby but the local university is very well known for its animal research and such, they even have a few axolotls, so I would expect a professor there could help me a bit if professional intervention is necessary.
