ok do they like light my room has foil over the windows so my room is black all the time should i leave the light on his tank all the time or should i turn it off and when about should i turn it off if i do need to turn it off at all

axolotls dont have eye lids so they dont like light. you can have light on your tank if you want healthy plants and stuff but you should provide your axie with caves to hide in

Yes you do need to turn it off. It has to be on for at least 12 hours a day. Get a timmer and set it to turn of and of to match the sun rising and setting in your area. Leaving it on all night is like having you stuck in a blank room with a v.bright light that never goes out, how would you sleep. A light is not neceserie unless you have live plants, then u need it on 12 hours a day.

they dont mind ambient light (normal room light from outside) as long as its not in the sun, i have mine on the floor by my bed and its nice and dim down there for them. having a fluro light on all the time will not make for happy axies lol. take the foil off your windows and just let normal light get in?
