Hello everyone. I just picked up an axolotl last week from a person that didn't want it anymore. The poor thing was pretty beat up. My main concern is that it is missing it's front left leg. And the person that gave it to me said that it's been missing for some time now but not sure exactly how long they just said a few months or so. I've never had an axolotl without a leg but have had them without there gills and tails pretty torn up. I was just wondering if there is a chance that he will regrow his leg or if he is going to be 3 leged. It doesn't matter to me I think he's cool either way. He gets around just fine and eats just as good as my other axolotls. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

They generally regenerate but not always perfectly, i have seen a few with the feet facing the wrong way.

I have had several axies with injuries where they have lost their legs.
I have one who lost her front leg to the elbow, she has grown her hand back from the elbow rather than a whole forearm.
I had a whole batch if babies who never grew back lost limbs, and one of them never grew arms in the first place.
I have an axie who grew back 3 arms from one shoulder, with a total of 14 fingers.
I had an axie who only had 3 toes on a back leg, and another whose toes all seemed to stick out at odd angles.
But I have also had axies who have lost a hand and regrew another perfectly.

I bought a male from an aquatic centre over a year ago....he had no front legs.......and they've never regrown, not even the slightest hint of a leg. He copes just fine.
