Live earth worms in perth

The thing with red wigglers/compost worms/tiger worms/whatever you want to call them is that they excrete a noxious, nasty tasting (no, I haven't tasted it...) slime when you cut them or the axolotls bite into them. My axolotls don't seem to mind, but other animals of mine refuse them, so I just use earthworms for everyone.

Oh that explains it Joan! b/c I do cut them up and the "girls" have been spitting them out.

Maybe they will have to learn to swallow them whole. If I only offer worms for a while, eventually they will hopefully accept them.

Jordan my cycle has finished (3 days ago, now) woohoo! I've posted pics in my tank set-up thread of the girls in their new home.

Rheann, I'd love for you to be my fishing buddy, but there is one problem - we live too far away from each other

Woohoo! I took your advice Joan and I didn't cut the worms - this time Stella ate 3 big worms (one of them was the fattest one I've ever seen). I was getting really worried b/c she was starting to look pretty thin - but it looks like her appetite is back.

Martini, on the other hand is having trouble swallowing the worms, it seems b/c they are too long - I managed to get her to eat one. The first one she spat out, so I gave it to Stella, and then Martini came to the front of the tank looking so disappointed, so I found her another one and she ate it. I tried to give her another but she tried once and couldn't swallow it so she gave up, so I gave that to Stella (3 worms is the biggest meal Stella has ever eaten and she's looking pretty pround of herself!

From now on it's just compost worms, and maybe a cricket once a week!

Joan, you are seriously a well of information! thank-you, you've solved my problem!

Yeah, that does pose a problem, doesn't it, Casey ;)

I love fishing!

Casey, you could also try cutting them, and then rinsing them well before offering to your animals. That might help with the being-too-long-to-swallow issue.

Great! Thanks Joan! I'll give it a try and let you know how I go with it!

Hows Martini doing Casey, and its good to hear your tank is cycled.

Martini is doing a bit better Jordan - she has been able to swallow a few large worms quite easily.

B/c my tank is so deep, it's difficult to hold the cut up pieces of worms, so If possible I'd rather feed them whole - but the girls are accepting them quite well.

I also fed pellets last night - and they found them all, except one which got sucked into the filter this morning anyway.

I had to go away for the weekend so I fed them friday night before I left and Sunday night when I got home, so they were fine and my parents kept an eye on the temperature for me too - which was great.

My parents show them to all their friends now, they've grown accustomed to them and my mum visits them in my room daily to say hello - it's so funny - she does that baby talk to them and says "hello Stella, hello Martini!"

Wow that is funny. I guess you'd have to get accustumed to them eventually.

Yeah, who would love newts!j/k my parents took sometime to convince that they wont give u warts..lol}

My mom hated all of them except the Taricha. Or, at least she pretended she did. But I'd catch her talking to them on occasion while she was working in the basement. She secretly adored them lol.

oh and just to clarify, the only reason i move my head from side to side is b/c i love it when they follow my head with theirs, from side to side.
I LOVE IT ! !
