So I have been raising three fire bellied newts for about 4 monthsish and I figure I would try giving them some live food. I believe they are all full grown and they are about 4 inches long.
These are my first newts so I wasn't really sure where to start. I'm also not sure what other info one might need to help me put. So let me know what else you might need.

Thanks :]

Worms are the best staple live food. Either pieces of larger worms like night crawlers available at bait shops or small garden worms are great. I have had good luck with red worms as well, but some newts will refuse them. The article Jennewt linked to is a great place to start.

Thank you for the help so far. I wouldn't mind culturing my own live food for them. I have never done that before so I would be interested in trying.

I second earthworms, mine love 'em :p I usually just feed them small ones from my garden around half or less the newt's size. I also tried slugs and they took them (although they were confused by how slow they were).

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
