Hi there- i went into withdrawal when the site was down for a day!!- does anyone feed their axies fresh liver ( aka lambs fry)i read that quite a few people feed the ox heart and i was wondering if liver was similar- do we have oxen in nz???!!

Mary, Ox heart is the beef heart - you can also use ox liver (cheaper than lambs fry) or sheeps heart (as treats!) as long as you cut the white fatty bits off (the heart). Our axies never get the lambs fry, let alone fish fillets (sorry but they're my/kids treats in our house!) They, our axies!, occasionally get ox heart or ox liver (sliced in slivers - worm like!); but I'd rather feed them worms - less fuss and mess (I hate cutting raw meat...) If u can't find any in the supermarket/butcher just check at meat counter (they usually have some out back).

Mary, as long as you trim away the fat, and feed a balanced diet, liver is a good treat.

i was given advise that liver can get them sick.
so i started giving them worms from the garden and if i couldnt find any, ill give them bloodworm that i baught from the petshop.

Any food in large quantities can make them sick, and lead to unbalanced diet issues. Worms from the garden and bloodworms are also very healthy foods.
