Loss of appetite, gill irritation and more...

Almost twenty days without eating, UNTIL TONIGHT! I am so excited I had to share. Charr just ate half an earthworm and is actively stalking the other half as I type :D I literally jumped in the air and cheered, while crying like a baby. My kids think I'm crazy, but I don't care. Anyway....

I know its still early, but I'm looking at this as a positive sign. If he continues to eat and keeps it down, how often should he be fed? I don't want to over feed. Should I stick to earthworms or alternate with waxworms to help get his weight back up to par?

Thank you!

Oh! He just ate the other piece :)

Offer waxworms too. They're like little salamander candy bars. If he's willing to eat it, offer small meals daily. This will help put on weight.

With a sad heart, I made the decision to euthanize Charr tonight :( It broke my heart to see him struggling so.

His swimming had become erratic, moving forward in a cork screw fashion or swimming in tight circles. His gills were always curled forward as well as his tail. He lost all his gill filaments too. The only weight he did have on him were from the two gravel protuberances jutting out from his belly. He never ate again since last I posted about it.

Rest in peace Charr. Your smile will be missed :(

:'( that's so sad - I feel for your loss!

You did absolutely everything you could & it's such a shame the little guy came with unseen problems & yet again death is because of the 'care' (or total lack of!) by yet another pet shop :(

You should be proud of your efforts & I'm sure your little guy charr appreciated everything you did - even at the end :(

I hope you get another lotl - this time from a breeder on here that raises their juvies properly - you've been such a caring loving axiemum that another one would thrive in your care under normal circumstances :) hopefully that is something you can look forward to in time.

RIP little one - swim free :'(

(Another victim of retailers! )

That's so sad. Avoidable deaths (due to shop negligence) are always tragic, with any luck Nikki's petshop campaign will help prevent a few.
