I was excited when marlowes garden centre in bury st edmunds announced they were adding a pet section, and when it opened i was happy to have a pet shop close to me. A couple of months later this was where i got my fire bellied newts, i was shocked when i saw one with no legs and half a tail, when i asked the pet shop worker how this happened, she said they get sucked through the filter system and end up in tanks with aggressive fish, she failed to show any concern. Also she had them in a tropical tank, i said they need to be in cooler water then that but she disagreed.
Any way, i got my newts and they have fattened up and are happy. But a few days ago i went back there with a friend looking for fish, i looked in the tank where the newts were and noticed they were gone, after looking in a few tanks i found a newt being swarmed by fish biting at his feet, i shouted straight over to a man, gave them the big speech about how they can't look after animals, he was shocked to see it, he said they didn't think they had any left
I demanded that i take it and give it a proper home, he let me have him for a pound.
So now i have a newt wit no back legs and half a tail, his called stumpy, the toes appear to be growing, they are white like bone but he is eating well and happy

Just thought i would [post this and share with people who will show the same level of annoyance to the local pet shop

Thats how it is every other pet store, the newts are missing limbs due to limb rot and what not, and they are in a boiling hot tank.

Good luck with the injured fella!
