My axolotl was getting poorer and poorer in old tank, rather small 2ft, lost gills and was showing signs of constipation. Decided to get new bigger tank (4ft), and while new spot gets prepared, to fridge poor fella.
All was good, until after 5 days I found bloody mass in his container, not sure which side it was ejected from his body. I honestly could not recognize what it was, but small guy did not look so bloated and eaten a worm happily, so I took it as a good omen and decided to procced with salt baths to help with gills.
Yesterday evening, on second round of salty spa, as soon as I put him in container, a small overgrown vain on gills burst, and he started bleeding badly. I immediately put him back to regular water and panic, as there was not much I could do to stop bleeding. Eventually it stopped, so I put him back, to fridge. This morning, i took him out to feed him a worm, as soon he grabbed it, he spit it out and the vain burst again… he loss more blood, but it stopped so he is back in fridge.
Called two vets and got two different opinions, one take him out, one keep him in...
He is really pale and needs to recover fast, and with slowed down metabolism in fridge it will take ages...
But in warmer water, and new tank he might get stressed, blood pressure will rise and bleeding will start...
Please, share some knowledge, what should I do? Is there anything to help heal the wound? Vitamins, supplements? Fridge? Tank?
I really appreciate any advise.
