I am in the South of England and my boiler has broken.

I am worried it is to cold for them.

What is the lowest temperatures that Fire Bellied newts can tolerate only till Thursday as that is when my heating is repaired ?

It seems to be dropping to about 11°C.

Thanks

Mike:smile:

Anything above 3-4ºC should be of no concern.

I have a dozen with a thin sheet of ice over the tank on my patio

Thanks guys for prompt response.

I don't think it will freeze in the house and so far has not gone below 11ºC .

Mine have been hibernating as low as about 3 degrees celcius in my garage over winter this year. Now back in water at 8 degrees they're just as active as at their usual 15 to 20 degrees. Cold isn't a problem and may even induce breeding.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
