I picked up my spotted salamander today and I saw this injury:

do I put a Band-Aid on it or something?

Keep it on damp paper towels with simple décor, such as a hide and plants. Apply Neosporin WITHOUT PAIN-KILLER on the wound. Also, find whatever could have made the injury, and get rid of it

Great advice. If the wound doesn't heal with this treatment, then it would be best to take your newt to a herp vet. I had to do that and the vet prescribed baytril and gave me very diluted iodine to clean the wound daily. The newt survived and is doing well now. You can see my post below:

Hope your newt heals up soon!
