I have been reading alot of books on axis, and i have read alot of threads on malachite green, in one of the books i have read, it says malachite green is fine if it is zinc free and if you DO NOT overdose it, and in some of the threads it says simply no malachite green, i am stuck because when my axi got his fungal infection i put multi cure stuff in which contains, methylene blue, malachite green and acriflavine, this treatment didnt affect him in any way, but it did help him get rid of his fungal problem.
Is it safe to put stuff in your axis tank with malachite green (zinc Free) or not???}}

My opinion..... Stay away from malachite green!

Salt baths and putting your axie in the fridge are much safer and I think much more effective than most formulated "cures" most the time they are way too harsh for axie's.

I have a personal dislike to the stuff, but then I'm a loach keeper.
I like to stick with meth blue at half dose, and salt baths.

Agree with Amber here. Malachite Green bath made my axie totally limp, tought she was gona die! Luckily not, but now I just use salt baths for mild fungus, or Methylene Blue baths for worse fungus. Seems to work very well

Lana, I have been using Malachite Green on my axolotls for about two and a half years now. I have never had problems from it. However, you could encounter troubles if you over use it. I usually don't even use half the recommended dosage on the bottle. The dosage on the bottle is for fish, but axolotl skin is more permeable than that of a fish. I have been told plenty about the perils of Malachite Green because it is so horrible (supposedly). Too much of a good thing can be bad. If you give them salt baths you also have to watch out with over use. An axolotl in high concentrations of Malachite Green will show less signs of stress than one that is placed in a salt bath with too much salt. Just use caution when using meds on axies.
