Here is my cynops cyanurus cinder! Is it too early to tell if he/she is male or female? I received him/her as a new morph September 2014. He/she is approximately 3 inches long.

This is my H. orientalis. I know I don't have a picture of the vent but he is not fully aquatic yet so it is hard to get a picture of his underside. I am assuming make due to a slight cloacal bulge and that kink just above tail. And also his tail seems to be fanning out more (vertically) since I've had him. Just looks a little wider.

What do you guys think?

Male/Female?

Why don't you start a new thread? Lol

Is he matured at 3 inches or do you think he might grow more?

... Sorry I was going to but saw there was already a male/female thread ....

No I think he will get bigger. He is not even a year. Just under 3" right now

Male H. orientalis can be mature at like 2", I would try getting a better side view underwater, sexing by cloaca in this specie isn't the most reliable

It's okay you're new I don't expect you to understand :D it's rude to hijack a thread lol.

What is the best way to sex them then? Ah yeah he is much bigger than 2" . Is the only sure way to wait for his tail to get that blueish hint?

I am unsure if it is the same with H. cyanurus, but I sex H. orientalis by the height and length of their tails

Here's some close ups of the tail. What are the length and widths usually of each sex? Boy this is a lot more complicated than I thought :D.

I don't think Aaron actually has any specific measurements or anything, he just means he goes by the general tail shape. Males tails are shorter in length and taller in width, females are longer in length and shorter in width.

Also that method is for H. orientalis, I haven't a clue if it's the same for H. cyanurus
