Hi all, i have 4 axies, 2 male and 2 females or so i think, i know the the females are definate females and one of my male is deffo male as they have bred previously, i keep them seperate, male only and female only. question is i came down this morning to find me known male pacing the tank dropping sacks, will he drop them if he is in with another male or have i sexed wrong and have another female? thanks

As far as i'm aware they will and can still drop their stuff without the female present.

Although in this case if your not 100% sure on the sexes i'm sure you'll find out in the next few days ;)

thanks melfly, theres 2 sacks still on the floor, looks like there is no intention of them been picked up, never seen them breed, only ever found eggs once the deed had been done:D there where doing a little mating dance if that means anything lol:confused:

Mine did that when he was alone in a tank. Silly thing with gills. :)

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
