Question: Marimo Moss Balls in tank?

I've had a Marimo ball in my tank for about eight months now, and that thing is thriving! It's large enough so that my adult lotls couldn't eat it even if they wanted to. I've never had a light over my tank (just ambient light from my room), and have had some temp. fluctuation between the cold months and current hot months.
Sometimes my lotls sit on it or bump it around, which is pretty adorable. Plus I've heard they can be a slight help for water quality.
Seriously, get one for the cute factor if anything :3
