Ok so tortilla just reached 6 inches long this month and she is already getting pale fingertips
i think i read that dark axolotls get pale fingertips and light axolotls get dark fingertips upon sexual maturity
is this now the case with tortilla?

It is debatable. I had read that about the toes too, but more recently I have been reading that it isn't a definitive indicator.

Our leucistic adult had dark toes about 3 months before "she" became obviously a "he". So in that case, the toes were not a good indicator.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
