Question: Missing leg.

We have had our new axies for a week and a half. Smaug is about 3 inches and Pan 4.5 inches. Yesterday, we presume Pan has bitten Smaugs left front leg off just below the elbow and the right is missing some digits. The bone is exposed on the left limb. I have kept axies before and I thought the size differece would be ok, their tank is 4 foot long and has hides. My question is shall I put a divider in the tank until they are closer in size? Is there anything I can do to help Smaug heal? He is eating well and has grown alot in the short time we've had him. Any advice appreciated.

Your first duty to Smaug is to make sure he can heal in peace, so if your tank can handle it, I think that adding a divider would be a good idea, just while he's healing up to ensure Pan can't take any more nips at him.

Keep an eye on the leg. The rest of it may fall off (that's what happened with my injured axie) and if that happens, then it should regrow without a problem. I'm not sure how a remaining bone might affect the regeneration, though.

As far as helping him regenerate, I would recommend giving him a little extra food to keep his strength up. Other than that, keep the water in good condition and hope that no fungus will set in.

Thanks. Ill get a divider tomorrow and keep them separated for the time being. We check the water weekly and do a water change. Fingers crossed he has no problem healing, Iv had axies with limbs missing before but Iv never seen a piece of bone poking out before

It's not uncommon, don't worry yourself :happy: Just keep him well fed and his water clean and cool and he should be fine.

You can make a divider out of an icecream lid or plastic box lid with some holes drilled through it
