I just did the same thing 
bought myself a 40b after having the axolotl bug for the past year and a half... finally doing it!
i'm planning on doing some sort of shelf on one side of the tank, under the filter to hopefully break up the current a little bit. I have a critter keeper that just about the right size, so i'm thinking that might work laying on its side. I can probably camouflage it decently enough.
