Is that a Chimera????

Two of my mosaics, just finished treatment for fungus. The mosaics had a high mortality rate and a couple got culled as they were eyeless. Not a trait I would like to see in the hobbiests trade.

I wish you were in the US. I would love to get one, they are stunning!

Any tips/tricks on breeding Mosaics?

Very nice, Ian! I love the split color mosaic with the gold. Just beautiful.

When did you notice your mosaic babies develop their color? My mosaic laid eggs for the first time, so I saved some to raise. They recently hatched. I don't see any that stand out as mosaics, so I'm wondering if a couple will turn out to be one later.

Thanks,
Tara

Mosaics are a completely random mutation - you can't breed a mosaic and expect mosaic babies.

That's the generally accepted opinion and if you breed mosaic to mosaic you don't get a bunch of them but have you noticed that the same people get them regularly ? Im not saying that there is definitely a genetic link but I'm open to the possibility

I had about a dozen mosaics out of 1500 axolotls I was raising, due to the high numbers I only started noticing them when I was selecting them for sale at around 3" and was individually checking their condition. They would have been noticibly odd balls from 1.5" if not sooner

I believe the link is with the parents rather than the mosaics themselves - if a pair produce mosaics then they are more likely to produce more in the next clutch.
