Hello all,

Just thought I would share some new pics of my Mudpuppy display at work. The tank is being cooled at the moment and the cloaca of the male has really swollen since I have dropped the temperature. The three females I have are getting more aggressive when disturbed and feeding a lot more than when it was warm. Fingers crossed they will lay some eggs when I increase the temperature in January and increase the flow of water.

They are so cool.

Jay

Changed the setup to get them to start laying.

Over the next month I will gradually raise the temperature and speed up the flow of the water. So if the male has done the deed then this should encourage the females to lay as long as he has everything in working order, so fingers crossed everyone please.:D

Here are some photos.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
