Hi there, thanks for reading. Just wondering if anyone has kept a Mudpuppy (Necturus Maculosus), in a tank etc.
Just wanted to know of any care guidelines, water temp etc.

Thanks!

Yes I have kept N.maculosus as well as N."beyeri".

They can be kept in tanks from 30 gallons + depending on how many and what size they are. Keep the water under 70F and use good filtration. They will eat worms, fish, crayfish,etc... Give them plenty of places to hide.

Hey Ken,

Glad to see you made it over to the site. People will be glad to help you out if you have more specific questions.

I don't mean to post out of section here, but I've set my mudpuppy up in a 29 gallon, with a fluval 404 cannister filter at a temp of 61 F. The bottom is bare except for a jumble of large rocks and driftwood. I've had her for 5 days and she hasnt eaten crayfish or pellets, and i tried earthworms this evening but she didnt seem interested. Is there something I'm missing?

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
