I just got my first ever axie today and im a bit confused. First of all, it dosn't really have feet, just little stubs... and another thing, my friend got her axies a few days ago and although they are a lot smaller than mine their gills are already much bigger. Is it possible that mine is morphing? If so is there a way to make it stop?

The fact that he doesn't have toes/feet, most likely means that he was kept with other axies in a too small space. When axies are in a small tank with too many, they tend to bite each other, and that means that sometimes they lose a foot or a whole leg. It will regenerate over time.
Shopkeepers tend to put a lot of them in a confined space, because it is cheaper, but the axies don't apreciate it and can get agressive with eachother.

The gills are not thát much of a concern most of the time. As long as there are gill filaments on the branches they should be ok. I have an axie that has gills that are less then a centimeter, but she's perfectly happy.
If the gills were damaged in a fight or something, they will regenerate.
My experience with young axies is that they have enormous gills. I currently have 6 juvenile axies, and their gills are massive :D.

A picture of the gills would give us a good impression if it's normal or not.

If your axie is morphing, what I doubt, it cannot be stopped.

Hey David,

it sounds similar to my axolotl. When I bought him he had stumps for all of his legs. I think it was due to the fact he was being kept in a tank with a much larger axolotl and had been attacked. Over about four months or so they have regrown and look (almost) normal. The front ones have only three toes each but he can get around the tank no worries :) So yea, if your axolotl has been attacked or kept in poor conditions, they should regrow if you provide a good environment for him. Same with gills, I wouldn't worry too much! :D

As Damien said though, if you still have concerns post a pic.

Hi David,

Welcome to the site.

I agree with what has been said. Axies have amazing regenerative abilities and yours sounds like it is still developing so I wouldn't worry too much at this stage.

Good Luck

I agree also, feed him well and keep him cool.

Awsome. It a big relife to know that hes alright. Now I acctually like his stubs theyre cute :p i think i might call him stubs... or nubnubs hahaha not sure. Thanks for your help and ill post pics soon :proud:

hey. i have 4 adult lotls and all have different sized gills. one of them also has only one foot, the other legs vary from a clawed stump that is half the length of the other legs to no feet. doesnt seem to bother lil though.
