My axie escaped :,(

Hi my axie escaped out of it's tank I don't know exactly how long for but our cat has nipped his tail I've cleaned him up in the tank water and seems a bit grumpy but hey I think anything in that situation would be but the thing that is making me wonder if there's anything up he's got his tail up in the air as if he's ready to mate he's got a dirt mark around his mouth and his toes have all gone dirty looking

Some photos would great, is your axolotl an albino/gold/leucistic, when these axolotls reach maturity they have "toenails" that look like they're painted black. Is his back end floating?

I'm sorry for your stressful situation, but I'm confused. How does an axolotl get out of an aquarium? I have a trouble maker axolotl and I want to avoid a similar situation!

If the water level is high and there's no lid then yep they can escape, it's usually fairly rare though

You should always have some sort of lid on your tank. Axolotls have been known to zoom and leap out of the water like whales sometimes, and land themselves in some dangerous situations. It's tough to imagine our chubby lazy salamanders doing that, but it happens, and the simple solution is a lid. I hope your axolotl feels better after his escape and is healing up nicely!

I do have a lid on it but were the filter goes theres a 4 inch gap he must have got over it that way but he's absolutely fine but I mus say since then literally yesterday both of my axies have got these wierd Y shape growths over them and behind there gills the other one had 2 before but they've got like 15 of them on each of them I must say I haven't changed the water for 3 weeks (I've been on holiday) so I'm going to do a change tonight there both eating absolutely fine so any idea what that is?

I wouldn't be surprised the ammonia build up would be crazy. How big is your tank?

I can't upload photos I have no idea how to I will be changing the water as soon as I finish work
