I went away for 4 days and when I came back 1 side of my axie's fills was completely covered with fungus. The other side has nothing on it. I am going to give it a salt bath. Is 4 teaspoons of salt for 2 liters ok. Is it to late to get rid of the fungus?

Salt baths need to be continued twice a day, for 10 minutes at a time, for up to a week, before fungus is 'cured'. Your dose would be correct.

The best thing to do is find out why your axolotl got fungus. If it was heat, you need to find a way to cool the tank. If it was fighting, you should separate axolotls. If it has fungus now, chances are it will get fungus again in the future if the root problem isn't solved.

I just changed the fluff stuff in the filter becuase I had forgot to change it last time. I think that could have caused the fungus. last time I gave an axie with fungus salt baths it died. Did it die from the saltbaths or for another reason? Is there a chance that the salt baths could kill my axie?

it will burn the gills if you use too much salt concentration which wouldn't have helped, if it was stressed enough to get fungus in the first place.

If it's the axie that regularly gets fungus then you'll have to as Kaysie says, expect it to happen quite often if root problem isn't sorted. You'll need to be even more careful with water parameters and temperature when summer comes round.

So by giving it a salt bath in 2 liters with 4 teaspoons of salt my axie would not die?

no it won't just remember the time. It would have taken a lot more than a salt bath to kill it.

since you changed the filter media, did you also test your water parameters, as this may have been effected.

I gave it one salt bath and all the fungus off. I cleaned the tank with this thing which got sucked all the stuff that was in the rocks out and I did a 50% water change. I did not test the parameters because I have to take water to the petshop to test that. Because the fungus has fallen off do I still need to give it another salt bath or would it be ok to leave it in the tank. I don't want to salt bath it if I dont need to.

Stephen didn't you say that before in a previous fungus post? Yes you DO need to saltbath again. Do twice daily saltbaths for at least 3-4 more days , just because it's dropped off doesn't mean it's not going to recur, as mentioned in other threads.

You should try and get your water tested weekly to ensure your water parameters are ok, if not sooner. And don't forget or leave it as your axolotl is very obviously getting stressed about something (water parameters most likely) for it to develop fungus every couple of month

If you're unable to do that then just make sure you do waterchanges (only 20-30%) every 2-3 days, not weekly and not in one huge waterchange because you forgot to or were tired.

It's the only way to ensure you are keeping on top of water parameters if you're unable to test your water regularly.
