My axolotl got cut on his cave about a month ago. I got him a new bigger cave but the cut has not healed and has gotten very bad. He now won't eat anything I give him. He won't eat worms or brine shrimp. The wound is very bad now and it almost looks lIke skin is falling off when he moves. I do water changes every couple of days. What else can I do to get him to heal and eat?

Adding Indian Almond leaves & black tea could help as they both contain tannins which & ial have antibacterial properties that help with healing.

Have you tested your water for ammonia & nitrites? I'm a big fan of large water changes normally & removing to a tub with 100% daily changes for recovery & rehabilitation.

Keep us updated please :)

Would a salt bath be a good idea or would that hurt him. It's an open wound that goes deeper than the skin

Ok I ordered some indian almond leaves. He still won't eat though. I've tried earth worms, brine shrimp which he ate twice then stopped, and I just tried some carnivore pellets.

I do not recommend a salt bath! For an open wound like that it would be excruciatingly painful and wouldn't help, as salt should only really be used for external fungal infections.
Indian almond leaves and black tea would be your best bet, I think. Look up Seachem Savor, it is an appetant, to make food tastier to aquatic critters.

Thanks! I heard an axolotl can go 4 weeks without eating. Is this true?
