Hello all, I am currently feeding/caring an axolotl for an one year approximately. He has been gained weight since the end of the march, yet now he has a limited moving capability. He also lost his gills a bit but I have tested the water and the only problem is the no³ level which is 75. I really freaked up when I saw other axies' bloats caused by some bacterial infection. I have been avoiding bloodworms or shrimps to prevent parasytes or bacterias. I am feeding him with only pellets and occasionally half a tablet of spurilina. I am living in Turkey and there are not any sources about axolotl help, nor there are any informed or knowledged veterinarians here. I have sent a mail to an axolotl specialist from Australia yet He/she has not replied yet. So now, I ll drop some pics of my axie here, I just want you all to check his pictures dates,(I ll write them in English) and tell me if there is a bloat because of any illness. Dates consist of DD/MM/YYYY. Last two photos are up to date. Please reply this thread ASAP, I am worried sick.

You need to find a way to drop your tank temp by at least 4 degrees. Frozen dechlorinated water bottles and or a fan blowing across the tank may do the trick.

I would look at making Johns solution it can help these anemic looking short gill guys alot.

If the pellets are 40-45% protein and 5-10% fat and either fish or insect ingredients in the first 5 you should be good.

Thanks a lot for replying firstly, I have searched johns solution on the internet yet it looks like it is impossible to reach it in Turkey. But if it comes to that, I will prepare it by myself. About the pellets, I recently bought regenerative and multivitamin pellets for his health with good nutritional values. I am constantly trying to drop the temperature in the tank, so these problems can be considered as solved. Are there any problems except these?

Do you have access to pickling salt, epsom salts and baking soda? Its a make it yourself solution.

I can't say if theres anything - there may be but temp, water quality and diet are 95% of the battle.

Foods should not contain iodine or copper.

Oh good, I'm glad there's some improvement.

And by the way, I did not notice where you are from till just now, Selam kardeşim. Forgive me, I no longer know my ancestral tongue very well. Haven't spoken it in almost a decade.

I put a measured cup in once a week, when I change my girl's water. It improves the quality of life for most axolotls so it's good to keep using but in small amounts. If you have a 10 gallon tank, 1 measured cup is all you should ever put in. I have a 20 gallon so I put 2cups in sometimes but usually 1 cup is enough. If you need any help or have any questions, please feel free to send me a message, I will help as best as I can. Sorry, I haven't actually spoken Turkish since 2013 so I barely remember how to say anything other than hello and goodbye. All my relatives who spoke it are gone and my friend from Turkey moved back to Istanbul when she got married.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
