My Axolotls are filing for seperation

Hi,

I have just explained on another thread that I saw one of my babies (no more than 3 months) sadly ate the other's leg today so I've put him in the fridge to recuperate.

I was keeping the two youngsters in a 2 ft tank together and my 1 year old in a 4 foot tank.

I was thinking of splitting my 4 ft in to thirds until the babies get big enough to live together. Will this be enough space? Can anyone recommend a good tank divider which is secure and porous (so I don't need seperate filters)?
I have just been looking at Pennplax at the moment. I don't have any tools so making one would be difficult.

Obviously I will only put the 3 legged one in when he is better,

I tend to keep my young axies in the plastic stackers you can buy all over the place now. They are easy to clean out so the need for a filter isn't top priority. Putting the axie in the fridge will slow down the regeneration of the limb, as long as there is no infection i wouldn't do this. It goes against what a lot of people will tell you but i use tap water on injured axies which tends to stop infection setting in.

The first 2 days I got the youngsters, which was a month ago, I kept them in a 3 tiered A5 sized plastic tray stacker which i'm assuming is similar to what you mean? It was great, In fact he is in one of the trays in the fridge currently.

They are about 4 inch at the moment, but quite delicate and my main concern about using the stacking box, for extended use, was that the water would get too warm with it being small and wouldn't cycle like a normal tank.

I figured they would regenerate faster in the fridge because they aren't using energy for other things when they are sluggish?

Maybe I could put the one who did the biting in the divided big tank with the older one and keep the 3 legged one in the smaller tank, if I did this I think I would need to do a 100% water change so he doesnt get infected? Would this be ok at such a young age?

the temp plastic tub is only that, temp.

there is no worry in needing to cycle this tub, as you will be doing daily water changes (fresh dechlorinated water everyday)

The cooler temp will slow everything down inc regeneration, axies can stand temps up to mid 70's or higher and as b00f says you will be doing regular changes.All i would add is use tap water that hasn't been de-chlorinated for the first few days to stop infection setting in, all the water will do is irritate its gills for a while which is better than having infection set in.I use tap water to cure fungus in axies and it never fails unless the fungus is really bad.
