A cople of beauties you got there mate are these your first caudata?

They will appreciate somewhere to hide, both in the water and on the land. Broken clay pots, cork bark and plants (plastic or real) are good ways to create cover.

The newts look well fed which is fairly unusual for newly acquired Cynops orientalis.

Yeh its my first attempt so spending alot of time reading and asking questions because obviously want things rite...


got them from a local aquatics place, who i have to say were fantsastic with there advice and help!!!

beware of advice from aquatic places they tend to know not a great deal and even make names up like red belly, a red belly is a type of newt but not that one..

There's such a thing as a red belly newt Ian? Illuminate my ignorance please - I genuinely can't think of what newt species that is.

I've heard Taricha rivularis referred to as a red bellied newt
