I have my axie in a tank with a female and just overnight it appears that he has become quite swollen in his cloacal region, about a week ago he left spermaphores all through the tank (but my female wasn't interested) so my theory is that he has just regenerated what he lost. or at least i hope thats all it is.

Does anyone know whats happening to my axie.

please help,
Nina

If there's no redness or discoloration, it could be that he's just very interested in your female. Don't be surprised if he stops eating for a bit too.

If there is redness, discoloration, or if it is extremely swollen; you may want to post a pic to see if there's something else going on.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
