I completed this tank a few days ago, and the newts were introduced last night. If you can't tell by the pictures, there is a stream running through the land portion. I've got a leak somewhere though- fortunately the leak stops where the water level currently sits. Right now the setup is by no means perfect; I'll probably have to re-adjust it in a few months and fix that dang leak so that the streams water level can be higher. Anyway, on with the show (Dawnsala, this is for you!):

Tank looks good so far Jeff! Hopefully you get the leaking situation sorted out. I think all newt tanks should come equipped with tortured souls.

LOL, yes I agree. A set-up isn't complete without some damnation!

Hi Jeff,

How many newts are there in this beautiful tank ?

Thanks.

Zuccone.

I am housing 10 Taricha granulosa. So far they seem quite content, and they love to swim into the "stream" of the tank.

The stream itself was made using pond lining purchased from Home Depot. I then used Aquarium Sealant to attach the pond lining to the tank divider and the gray "water bowl". I have a pump in the pond with a hose running through the divider, under the substrate and up into the "water bowl", thus creating a flowing stream. While the set-up right now is useable, it is by no means perfect. I'm going to improve upon it (maybe widen out the stream and fix the leak- water level is at highest point w/o flooding substrate), but this won't be for a month or so.

The lining wasn't too expensive. I got a 1 foot length of it for somewhere around $7. Even better- the pond lining was about 7-8 feet wide.

Neat tank Jeff.

I'm currently in the process of doing something similar, so it's nice to see how other people have interpreted the "stream" idea! Do you have any other photos, perhaps from different angles; looking up them stream, looking directly down from above, etc.?

I'm actually about to tear down this stream, and build a waterfall to stream combo using non-toxic foam. The foam should be a lot more stable than what I currently have, plus it should look a lot nicer (more natural)! I'll post pictures when I'm done with it.

great tank your Tarichas look very happy its just liek you would see them living in a forest very nice
