My new axie set up, coments?

My new set up, have decided to go away from the artificial look in both this and my tropical tank, there is 2 caves one at each end. i have Japanese rush and java moss in this tank. its 900mm long and 400mm wide and i have a black axie and a smaller golden albino.

I think it looks great! Is it a DIY background? Im just wondering what kinda lighting do you have?

the background is a foam background from a shop but i got 2 to make the little landing pads for them.

lighting wise that fluro in the shot is off my tropical tank purely for enough light for a good photo, normally i just have that little silver led lamp on top which is just bright enough to see them in the dark, bearly. i havnt got a fluro for them coz i would just feel mean lighting them that much

Love your set up, very attractive, and so are your 2 axolotls. Only thing is that when it come's to cleaning time it's a case of having to remove all the stone's, as food and the axolotl poo will find it's way between them, that said, i also have stones and have to do the same so as long as you dont mind having to do that, then it's fine. Congratulations on a nice setup.

One thing you might want to be aware of is how thick the layer of sand is. You dont want it any thicker than an inch.

Sand depth looks good. I wouldn't go deeper. Rocks are nice and smooth. Nothing with rough edges. Only problem is it will be hard to clean.

Nice looking tank, the only recommendation i would make is to add some floating plants to block some of the light out, this will allow your axolotls to choose the level of lighting they want. I keep my axolotl tanks quite dark , i feel it makes them less likely to hide. Also ,a bit of surface cover may encourage them to hang under it, letting you see them more.

The set up looks pretty good.
Just a couple of quick questions.
What gender are your axolotls? Because if they're male and female then it might be a bit difficult to remove the occasional batch of eggs from the tank...
And where did you find the java moss?
I've looked through all my local petstores and havent found any

i get my java moss on trademe from a lady in northland, its $5.50 for a handfull and ends up about 10 with postage

i hate floating plants this tank is blocked from sun, light isnt an issue, and my axies dont seem to cear, they never hide, there never lathargec they play in the filter outlet getting boosts and play in the bubbles, all the things there not sapost to!! as for gender i have no idea

Haha they sound just like my one! I thought something was wrong with her because she lays under the filter, swims like a maniac and loves hovering over the air bubbles
