I got Chalfie about 5 days ago at the Repticon show in Tampa, FL. He is a wild-type GFP axolotl and is named after Martin Chalfie, one of the scientists that won the Nobel Prize for his work on GFP. He was a little shy at first, but now is very active and eating like a piggy!

He's a cutie! But try and limit your axolotls exposure to the blacklights as it is extremely stressful for them.

He is really cute, although yeh try and reduce the lights as I heard that the insides of their eyes also glow and can have a serious effect on them.

Aww, he's sweet. I like the pyramid decoration, very appropriate for a Mexican critter!

Of course, I really only turned the light for the pictures, and then only for a min or so.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
