My new marbled salamanders

Today I have just received a sexed pair of (apparently) c/b (though I have been told they may be captive reared) marbled salamanders (A.Opacum)

they are apparently male and female but they may have been sexed by colour so it may not be accurate, Though I think the one at the top is the female because she has a thicker tail than the supposed male.

The pictures aren't great, but they both look female to me.

Hey Sam, those are lovely! In picture 1010053 the female is resting her head on the male. Males have brighter whites with a higher white:black ratio in their color pattern. They also have more contrast between black & white than females. You can double check by checking out the vents- do you know how to do this?

I think the grey one is female and the white one is male.

Sam, those pictures aren't useful for sexing.

Agreed, it's hard to sex from the pictures posted. If the seller is right and you have a male and female, then the male will have the brighter whites. Like Kaysie said, it's also possible you have two of the same sex. Sexing by colors is not 100% accurate, ideally you would see a swollen vent on the males during the breeding season, which is fall in this species.

With this species, sexing by color is no more than a lucky guess most of the time. The only time I've ever seen a noticeable difference is during the courtship phase (September-November) of the breeding season. I still say you have 2 females.

Both of them seem to be doing well.
I have changed there setup and have moved things around and added a few things like more hides and moss.

The enclosure dimensions are 37cm long, 27.5cm wide and 19cm tall.
