Lookin good! I like the islands...is that java moss on them? What do they consist of?

Hi Joseph,
One island (the one on the right)is a set of lock-rocks, the other is a platform I made out of acrylic pieces (you may be able to see the support post) with a large lock rock glued to the top. Yes, it's java moss on the set-up, the newts love hiding in it! I'm considering doing all the islands as transparent platforms.

Nice tank.
I personally would add a background..maybe something with photos of rocks or aquatic weeds. Or maybe attach some fake plants that you can suction cup to the glass.

Hi ALexandra,
A few months back I made them a tunnel from one of those fake hollowed out half tree trunk pieces that you can buy in pet stores.....then I glued on black and white gravel. It looked beautiful but the newts never really used it, so I removed it from the tank. I don't know where they really sleep, since they stay up late with me!
But I have seen them either crawl up on top of their platform and sleep among the java moss or if they stay in the water, sometimes they slip between the lock rocks tower I gave them (doesn't look as nice but they like it). In the picture, you can see one of the newts is sticking his head out from the java moss.

OH! I didn't see the little yellow newt. My newt usually sleeps under a "den" it's kinda like a cave. Because she thinks a preditor would eat her.
