Hi, just found this thread so couldnt resist adding pics of mine here too!

Rose, a golden albino, happy at lunchtime! Her eyes always shine up weirdly in pics!

They've been with us for a week now, the person i got them from thought the wildtype was male but wasnt sure about the albino - personally, after spending a lot of time just watching them since they've been with us, i think they could both be female so Oscar could be misnamed lol but i'm not sure - i guess if they are one of each i will find out soon enough!! :happy:

Since the tank pic was taken we have added more plant, covered the back and sides of the tank with an 'aquascape' and blacked out the lid too to keep a lot of daylight out and they seem to love it.

They are lovely, but of them have beautiful markings. You are going to want to take those rocks out, because when they are full-grown, they may be able to fit the stones into their mouths. It seems unlikely, but just a few days ago someone posted that their axie had gotten a large piece of gravel in its mouth, and the gravel was about the same size as yours.

Those rocks are probably hard to clean too, right?

I went for large pebbles as i wasnt sure what substrate to use as i'v read fors & against for everything, i love the look of sand but not sure how easy it is to keep clean, do you have to remove it & replace with fresh?

A bare base with large rocks & hiding places looks great but the tank base seems to act like a mirror when bare & has no grip & i wondered if that would stress them?

I have kept a large bare area at the front for feeding, i've only had them a week so the pebbles have been easy to clean so far but i will happily change it if someone can advise whats best to go for please? Also, is it best to remove them from tank for cleaning or clean round them? I've syphoned out water & debris to do partial changes & they seem happy to sit there while i do that, is that right or is there a better way to clean their tank?

Theres loads of info on internet but best advice is from people that have actually tried things so i'd be grateful for any help please to keep my babies happy & healthy for a very long time.

In your first picture of Rose, it looks like she has someting in her mouth...have you just fed her?

The picture of the golden was during feeding I believe.

As for substrate...I am a huge supporter of a tile base. It has the ease of bare-bottom, with some grip and better look.

Hi, yes it was feeding time :happy: i tried to catch a shot of her grabbing the pellet but they move so fast so far i've only managed to capture them just after they've caught their food!! They had their first taste of live bloodworms the other day, it was amazing to watch them stalking then pouncing, i love the way they kind of float upwards when they suck in a mouthful, the rest of my family think i'm mad but i could happily sit watching these two for hours!

I'm definitely going to be changing the substrate as soon as i decide what to go for, there are some lovely pics of set ups on this site, i hope i can make my tank look gorgeous and be practical too.

Any ideas would be very welcome, i'd not thought of a tile base, thats another idea to put into the pot - its going to be a hard decision to make!
