Hi All
Thanks so much for your help. The temp was quite high 24 Degrees got it down to 19 by freezing some of the tank water and putting it back in the tank.(is this ok) I also did notice that my fungal treatment did have malachite green in it -how bad is this? I also have taken out the pebble substrate and will be putting in some sand. They did eat yesterday, but not alot! I have put in some fresh blood worms so hopefully they dig into them.

the ice thing is fine, i don't know about the chemical, but its good that you got sand instead of the pebbles. Good luck with the feeding.

Chris, Malachite green is toxic. I'd do a lot of waterchange (50-75%).

Sand is a good substrate, I think you'll like it better than pebbles. It's much easier to clean too.

Using ice to cool the tank is fine, but you don't want to create drastic swings in tank temperature. This can be very stressful, moreso than just being warm. Have you tried blowing a fan across the top of the water? This can lower your temp significantly.

Chris - Next time you need medication there is a list of safe medications for axolotls on the bottom of this page: http://www.axolotl.org/health.htm

If you have fungus problems again, salt baths twice a day are usually successful at clearing it up. You mix 2 teaspoons of salt to 2 liters of water and soak the axolotl for no longer than 10 - 12 minutes.

Oh no
I have been treating her with a anti fungal with malchite green for awhile(2 weeks)the pet shop owner said that this what to use. Is this going to be determental to her now even though I have stopped using it. I was using at quite low doses.

It could affect her even though you have stopped using it. Thats not good that you were using it at all even if small doses.

Chris, it turns out that most of the time, pet shops really don't know how to deal with amphibians. They're used to fish and such, not sensitive amphibs. I would watch for signs of illness, but now that you're not using it, and there's none in the tank (right??), you should be okay. I think malachite green is liver-toxic, but I can't be sure. One of the medical experts will chime in here, I'm sure.

There are so many petshops with bad advice, they say that axolotls love light and other stuff that is completely wrong.
