Hello there,
I’m new to this site and I’m desperately seeking some advice for my axolotyl he’s skin and bone, still eating, waters all as it should be etc but just seems to be wasting away, any info would be great

how often are you feeding him and what are you feeding him???
try increasing the fat intake if you are feeding him appropriately.

otherwise, you may need to try feeding more.

juveniles should be fed until they spit up and on daily basis.
adults should be fed two-three times weekly the amount they will eat in a 10 minute period.

feed him as much as he will eat until he loses interest, do this a couple of times a day until his torso is the same width as his head, once he is the right size continue feeding daily for juvenile and every other day for adult.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
