Photo: My Tank Set Up

Hello all! I have just finally finished setting up and filling my new tank. It was belonged to my folks and housed fish for many years, I have since cleaned it and painted the trim and stand. I don't yet have my axies but I am hoping for 2 juvies in a month or so. For now I am going to get my tank cycling with a few fish.

Don't worry the fish will be removed as well as anything else they may be able to fit in their mouths once they arrive. I am hoping to also get a few snails and Marimo Moss Balls and maybe Java Moss soon. I am a beginner to all of this so please feel free to give me some tips I could use them!

It looks great! However, if your planning on taking the things out of the tank that will fit in their mouths (eg. those marble thingys), would you be best to do it before hand?

Well I'm unsure as to what size they will be when I get them so I really see no harm in them being in there for now and it won't be that difficult to remove when they to come. The are fairly large marble, nearly golf-ball size.

Sometimes it's hard to tell the size of an aquarium by just looking at a photo, and the decorations inside the tank can look smaller or larger than what they truly are depending on perception.

Axolotls have very large cup mouths and anything smaller than two centimeters in diameter presents a danger of impaction to an axie as they munch on anything and everything.

A large marble the size of a golf ball is fine. :happy:

Thank you! I totally get what your saying. I figured these large marbles would be safe, the smaller rocks however will probably need to be removed as they grow larger.

btw- it's a 30 gal. As they get larger I plan on upgrading them to a larger tank.

I love the rock caves.

Are the bubbles from water flow? If so, that may be too strong for axolotls.

The matching bucket is a nice touch, too.

It is. My filter is adjustable, right now its on it's max setting just so I could get things settled. I plan on turning it down just before they come and facing the steam towards the back wall to break up the flow.

The rock caves are reptile hideaways. I was happy to find them through a dealer where my work orders pet food. :happy:

Well, for a self-professed beginner, you certainly seem to know your stuff!

I have a reptile cave in one of my tanks, too, but it's nowhere near as pretty as yours. My compliments!

Thanks! there are still many things I need to learn but I try and do as much research as I can on this subject. I want my axies to be very happy.
