My triturus tank

Actually, if it's 3 x 1 x 1.5 feet, that's a standard 30-gallon tank (at least here in the US). What did you put under the land area? Is it a huge bank of gravel, or is there something else occupying the space under there?

it's well washed clay with some large rocks to take up some of the room. there is about an inch of gravel on the top.

there is one medium sized spider plant in the water. it was an experiment that i did, i grew one plant let in compost, one in sand, one in gravel and one in nothing but water. all of the plants grew at the same rate, this plant is just standing in the water with no compost but i imagine it will be only a matter of time before it roots itself

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
