I'm gutted ... Eric, my leucistic, died last night and I have no idea how it happened. The night before he was fine - eating, swimming happily. Then last night I found him in the corner of the tank, gone :(

I'm struggling to work out how it happened. He showed no signs at all of being sick. I examined his body and there were no marks, discolouration or fungus. There's nothing in the tank for him to swallow or choke on.

He was lying very peacefully too - his arms by his sides, his chin resting on a rock. It didn't look like he'd died in pain, so I don't think it was a heart attack or choking death.

He was only 3 - does anyone have a clue what might have caused this?

I'm sorry for your loss.

How old was Eric? Sometimes axies die for no apparent reason in the first year, usually as congenital problems take effect.

But if he wasn't sick then the chances are there was nothing you could have done.

He was only 3. I guess it's just such a shock, as he was so lively and healthy. Then suddenly, gone.
