Hi all. Need a little help identifying this little guy. It was found in a sump pump over the weekend. Location is about 49 miles west of Chicago. I originally thought it was a blue spotted salamander but. I’m not a 100% because he’s not that blue. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I can't quite see. Do the back feet have 5 or 4 toes? Also, are the spots really that dark?

Also, I wouldn't keep him submerged. Salamanders can drown if they are fully grown and don't have gills anymore.

Hi, thanks for taking a look. It does have 5 toes in the back and yes the spots are that dark. That’s what’s giving me the trouble of identifying it. They look tan to me. And yes it’s out of the container of water. That’s just how I got it out of the sump pump pit. Also not sure if it will help but it appears to have 7 intercostal spaces per side. Thanks for the help.
