Natural habitat information

I dicided to make this theread so you can help me joining all the information we can too understand more about the natural habitat off the newts and salamanders we keep so we can give them a better home. Everything you can find about plant spiecies, rock types or wood existing on our pets naural envoirment would be realy apriciated. I can statt asking about axolotls natural habitat because they are the only spicie I am keeping at the moment, What do you know about it?

Mexico City is built on top of a series of mountain stream fed lakes. The water is cold and muddy, heavy with biological material, and full of plants.
