I was wondering what water quality is best for my mudpuppy's. I had a big fungal/body sore insident and now they are better after being fridged and salt bathed. Now I want to get them out of the fridge into the new clean 220 Gallon tank I have set up a few weeks ago. I just checked the water with my tetra water test kit and was wondering if my readings are suitable for them to be healthy and happy.

pH:8.3

No2-:0.3mg/l then the intructions say to devide by 3.3=0.3mg/l

NH3/NH4+:0.0mg/l

GH:I had a total of 9 drops before a color change.

KH:4 drops before a color change.

The kit gave me a CO2 chart but I'm a little confused on how to folllow the chart (I failed chemistry in school..:bowl:.)

And the temperature of the water is:22 deg C

Any input would be appreciated and any extra care needed to be known about transfering my mudpuppy's from the fridge to the tank would be great. The fridge is at 5 deg C.

Thanks, Alannah R

You'll want the temperature lower. Below 20 really ...

The pH seems a little on the high side.

Yeah I kind of thought it was a high temp. I want it initially at 17. How do I lower my pH? How much should I lower it?

Unfortunately lowering pH is considerably harder than raising it, you need to be able to remove the buffering ions form the water as if you use something to lower the pH the tanks buffering system will just raise it again. The only way I can think of is to get a purifier, there is one on the market specifically for aquariums made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals which is about £30 over here. Constantly fluctuating pH is worse than the wrong pH in some respects.

Someone else may be able to come up with another option.
