Bloated upside down axie

Hi i am looking for any advice to help my axolotl, Angel. We have had our 2 axolotls, angel and delight, for about 5 years now. They used to live happily together until about a year ago when angel would constantly attack delight so we now have a tank divider. Anyway ....last week angel managed to get through the divider and attack poor delight, biting off most of his front leg..clean right off! Since then she has been bloated and just getting worse. (Think she may have his leg stuck??!!) She has been floating upside down for nearly a week now...i have her in the fridge just now (been there for 3 days) but no improvement. :( feel so sorry for her..she just cant seem to get herself the right way up. I dont know what to do if fridging doesnt help! Any ideas anyone??

Re: Bloated upside down axie

If something is stuck in her and fridging hasn't helped she needs a vet.

The other option I would try is to lower her water so it barely covers her. Flip her to the right side and place something in the water to gently wedge her and keep her from flipping back over again. I had an axolotl that got really bloated and would flip upsidedown. Mine was from making a mistake and putting a pot I thought was terracotta in the tank, but wasn't, and it made her sick. She was fridged for a few weeks. She recovered just fine.

Re: Bloated upside down axie

Hi...thanks for reply. I have tried to wedge her right way up but nothing works! She so big and strong she just flips back over! Did you have to wedge yours to keep them upright..if so what did you use? Also..ive tried calling different vets nobody will deal with axies ?

Hi... i posted on here a week or so ago looking for advice for my sick axie but not had any response and getting desparate (i understand its a hard thing to help with) i posted same post on another site which resulted in final reply saying i should consider humane euthanasia which i cannot do! My axie attacked my other axie biting off his leg since then she has been bloated...think leg has caused blockage. I have had her in fridge for over week now but no change. She is bloated and upside down ? i have tried to find a vet that deals with axies but had no luck. I dont know what to do. Breaks my heart to see her like this. Any ideas anyone?

If she is bloated and you can't take her to the vet, then just be as supportive as possible. Have you looked at the care articles in my sig? There are many articles on health and illness.

Thank you for your reply..i will have a look at articles thanks ? how long do you think is long enough to keep her fridged before its starts to be an issue to her ( as obvs not feeding) ?
