Need help feeding pixie frog!

I'm having problems feeding my new pixie anything besides crickets. I have put worms ( nightcrawlers smaller pieces) in front of him when he tries to get it his aim is so far off he misses every time. I tried feeder fish smaller in a bit of water and he tried once missed and never went back after it. I then put like 15 crickets in and he got everyone with ease. I'm just wonering if I'm doing something wrong or has he just been on crickets so long he's used to them moving so fast? please help i would like him to get other nutrients besides calcium and vitamin dusted crickets. I will try anything have lots of worms on hand due to other animals. Is there something they like the best the more info the better. I'm also doing other reading. thanks for all you help.

Great to hear you are trying to expand your frog's food choices and earthworms and feeder fish would be a great way to go. I would try to be patient with your frog. Maybe try feeding it in a small bare bottom cage with just the food item for a hour or so, see if it will take it then. It might just take some time before the frog figures out how to eat the food. I would also try a whole earthworm, appropriately sized for the frog of course, instead of pieces. It should be easier for it to grab it and whole prey items are always better. Hope that helps some. thanks for the info I do have a big medical basin and thats what I feed him in well i feed him crickets in his tank he's on eco earth so they say it's ok if he does eat some. when i feed him anything else i feed him in the basin. I seen on youtube they put their frog in a little tub like container with like a quarter inch water or so and the frog had no problem. Thats what i tried with both the worms and fish. The worms were bigger pieces probably one night crawler pinched in half. Just wondering why you think he's really a her? I read that the females have a cream under throat and males have yellow he's all yellow under but i don't know if thats cause he is young? I also read you can tell if they are under 2 if they still have the yellow line down their back. Please let me know if i'm wrong I'm always reading things on all my animals. the pic is not my pixie but it was the closest I could find very similar. Please let me know if there's any very important things I should do or know about them. I did read they are or can be aggresive. my kids hold him and they are careful but I would like to know if I shouldn't let them handle him? Thanks for the other post though.

The frog in the picture looks like a female because of head shape. The males and females have very different shaped heads and mouths. The females can have a little bit of yellow under the chin but the males have more. The color is also associated with breeding so much brighter on males thinking it is time to mate. If you look at the picture I have posted of mine you might be able to see the differences between the males and females. I wouldn't be overly worried about the frog. They can bite and even draw blood but that is at a much larger size. They really only do that as a feeding response though. In my setup the frogs tend to take turns buried in the substrate, coco husk, and come back up when they get hungry again. Sometimes it is a week or two before I see them again. They are tough frogs so keep trying, I'm sure you will do just fine.

sorry to keep bothering you but he will stay burried all the time I bring him up every day and spray him he will use the bathroom and then I will feed him. Now I don't know if it means anything but he has been croaking the last couple days. He is very yellow under his mouth. I'm getting my new shipment of worms in the next couple days so we will try feeding again and I will try twezzer feeding. I think he may be trying to hard because he's so used to the crickets being so fast so he just over shoots the worms cause they are slower. So do you spray the tank down daily? Do they like to have anything special in their tank I just have a hide and I'm going to get him some moss to hide in too. thanks so much for all your help.

He/she may stay buried for some time, a few weeks even, before coming up to feed again. I wouldn't worry too much about it if he is not losing weight and appears healthy. If the setup stays moist and he has access to water then just let him be. You could toss some worms or crickets in there and see if he eats but I only feed mine about twice a week. I did feed them much more frequently when they were smaller. If he is calling, it is probably a male and picking up on weather changes and trying to breed. Take a look at my setup in my albums.
