Yes I understand that Becky. I use a desk lamp to look at my axolotls . My point was that lights aren't a requirement, especially if there are no plants (so rich is not obliged to replace it) and if one uses them all the time it is stressful for axolotls. Didn't mean it to sound like I was telling rich not to use a light...

Oh ok thats cool, and im gonna be gettin a gold fish bowl soon now, or the fish die, my axie is the most important lol (im jokin im not crule). But fish will be gone, and get bigger stones so its good for axie, and looks good to me lol. ... on some of the videos on you tube, peopel have blue lights, are they better for the axie?

I don't think the axolotl will have a preference between blue or white lights. It's more of a personal preference/ planted tank requirement as to what kind of light you use or don't use. The more light, the better for plants, but also algae. If you have a strong light on during the day, your axolotl, may spend most of his day hidden, but come out at night. Some people use low intensity lights or "moon" lights so that they're axies are active during the daylight hours when they can see them. It all comes down to personal preference. The things to be aware of are, do I have enough hides, and is my light warming my water.

As far as substrate, having large stones may be safer than small gravel, but it is more difficult to keep clean. Waste gets trapped between/under the stones, and you have to be diligent about siphoning under them.

Yea i take what you say about the trouble with keeping large stones clean, but a bit of elbow crease dont hurt lol, an it will look nicer than sand or a bare tank floor ...well i think any ways lol. an i have to do it at college so doing it at home should be no trouble
