Need help with shanjing larvae

my shanjing larvae are currently not doing so well. The one that hatched has tripled in size in the last week and has been moved out of the tank the rest are in.

The rest have not grown at all and ive discovered a couple of dead ones.

I changed their food to soley daphnia but havent seen any results as i thought microworm were causing slow growth but there must be another factor

-temperature - hasnt affected the huge one
-food - not had much luck with daphnia or microworm and general pond stuff
-overcrowding - thoguth this very unliekly

i would really appreciate quick responses as my current situation with university makes it difficult to make changes while im away.

Low the temperatures slowly!
Not kidding!I had my best results when keeping larvaes at 6°C at nights in winter and 15 the days!They metamorphosized in february the following year.
But normally, if the female lays much earlier the year,i keep them at temperatures lower 20°C,
having had problems while using higher temperatures.
My animals went on land at 18°C everytime!
I keep 8 to ten larvaes in a 60cm-Aquarium,
without any light over it,
but having other terraria round.Water´s about 10cm high,having Java-moss and less other plants in.Nothing´s on the ground, because of taking dirt out every day.
But it´s more practical to use plastic boxes,
most perfect are those tiny greehouses,
used for raising plants.They have a roof made of clear plastic that can be put on right before the animals go mtamorphosizing.

You can do that,
no problem!;-)
But i´m not the only one,
who made these experiences.And they aren´t people who don´t exactly know what they´re really doing.I even have to say,that my CBs grow a little faster than some others,
even colouration appears much earlier,...
The larvaes even eat on winter days,....
On the other hand, i do know from people,
having been in yunnan, that shanjing of "lower" regions, differ from those of "higher" areas.Unfortunately, there aren´t exact data so far.By the way, i don´t think of T.shanjing of beig that sure as a species,...
But back to this nice diskussion:
The animals, shown on Walkagoods page really look like my adult wc breeding group,
i had to give away some time ago,...
These animals originate from the same import.
My CB 200o animals, that were wintered and went on land in february 2001,
have grown up to more than 13 cm (females) up to now,...
And i have to say,
that temperatures as given in literature,
didn´t work that good in here!
(But this can be a result of the verrucosus/shanjing -mess,....)
What have been your experiences, john?Do you have pics of the "parents",
or any data on raising?

I didn't breed the shanjing - a friend did. I raised them to metamorphosis from very small larvae without any problems at about 24 degrees Celsius. No losses, no diseases, no problems. They were fed well on daphnia, bloodworm and grindal worms. It took about 2 months. David Jenner has the juveniles now.

help and advice much appreicated but unfortunatley apart fromt eh big one the rest seem to be dying. If you ahve any more help id like to hear it - daphnia and a higher temp havent done the trick. Any ideas as to other factors or advice??????

Mark:Guess what went wrong in my eyes,.....
When hatching and starting to grow, they have to be kept not like "carribean-sunshine-newts",;-)
What´s the exact temperature in your aquarium?Did you put any plants in the water?(Where did you get them from?)Where´s the food from?
